Should I be sleeping in the nude?

Recently, I re-posted a picture from @flowerbomb_wellness that read “Let you pussy breathe”.

It got me thinking and I realized that I’ve naturally done this most of my adult life. Sometimes I get into bed wearing only my skivvies and I almost always end up waking up in the middle of the night to go full bare. I am so glad I have listened to my body because it turns out there are some benefits!

Full disclosure, after diving in and doing my research, I couldn’t find any scientific evidence on this specific claim but there is plenty of anecdotal evidence about the benefits of sleeping sans-underwear and honestly, it just makes sense!

The first claim that I see being made in favor no-panties at night is that it can help keep vaginal pH and the vaginal microbiome balanced (aka keep good bacteria in and bad bacteria out). The problems come in if there is not enough aeration. Some doctors have said that this can cause your natural bacteria to get out of balance which could lead to a yeast or bacterial infection. The good news is that the majority of women don’t have to worry about this, especially if you already shower regularly and change your underwear on a daily basis. But if you are someone that is prone to yeast infections or bacterial infections like vaginosis, this could be a good tool to try out. Regardless, I find that after a whole day of moving, sweating, and having my She Queen covered with multiple layers of fabric, it is so freeing to just let her breathe freely overnight.

Another benefit to sleeping-in-the-buff comes in if you, like me, have sensitive skin. I’m already very sensitive to fabrics that touch any of my skin and having tight underwear can sometimes make me itchy and uncomfortable. This is especially true right after I wax or shave. The skin around our vulva is already sensitive and shaving or waxing tends to irritate this delicate skin so sleeping a la nude gives your skin a rest from any friction.

But don’t worry! If you can’t bare to go bare (lol see what I did there?) wearing good ol’ cotton undies is perfectly fine, but make sure they have a butt. You could go thong during the day and normal bikini at night. The best part about this is that its 2020 and there are so many brands out there making super cute cotton underwear so you don’t have to suffer the old fashioned grannie pantie.

Just remember, only you can choose what is best for you and you vagina! If you do have any concerns about potentially having a yeast or bacteria infection or anything else relating to your vulva and vagina, make sure to discuss it with your doctor and ask if sleeping with no underwear could help.
